6/30/2014

We'll most of this week was full on toddler teething mode.  Up till this round, she would get 2 coordinating teeth at once, so the pain seemed to not last so long.  This time, first one tooth, and just when she was finally getting over the trauma of that tooth, the matching tooth came in prolonging the pain, the whining, the nasty diapers, the drooling, the fussiness, etc.  but I think she's finally over that hump. (Wipes brow, says a silent prayer).

In amongst all this, I made a Red, White, and Blue elastic tutu dress for the little one in preparation of the upcoming holiday.  It's so adorable!

I finally got my first order.  I'm making a Draculora inspired dress (from Monster High).  I've already got the style in my mind, now it's just a matter of bringing it to life.  I'm excited, the client is excited.

On a side note, I started making tulle swatches, for making ordering easier.  None of the places I order from has tulle swatches available to order.  I had to go off the website and hope my resolution did the colors justice.  Some did, others were a disappointment.  For example, I have yet to find the right shade of yellow to do a Belle inspired dress.

Well, that ends this weeks update.  By next week I should have pics of the completed Draculora dress, and maybe I'll have pics of the Batman dress I completed for a friends' daughters birthday.

6/23/2014

This last week, was my daughters first birthday.  Then came her 1 year check up.  With that check up came 5 shots, and blood work.  What a doozey that was!  And on top of everything, she is cutting yet another tooth.  As soon as this one breaks the skin, she will have 8 teeth!  So this week has been cranky, grumpy, and needy.  Not to mention the diapers and battling diaper rash.  As a stay at home mom, these are the things that take up my day.

My time to relax has been during naps and after she goes to bed.  I have not been idle during this time frame.  I have finished 4 dresses, with 1 incomplete still on the dummy.  So to fill you in, I have pictures of my dresses.

First, I completed my peacock dress.
I used  a variety of colors to complete this dress.     chocolate, teal, wine, turquoise, and purple.  I then weaves some of those same colors into the bodice.  I added a beautiful wine colored flower, and 2 peacock feathers.

I finished a Batman inspired dress, but since it's a birthday gift, I can't show the picture until she gets it.

I completed a Snow White inspired dress.
I added my own flair with some hot fix crystals, and an  interesting button.

I then made my first elastic dress for my baby girl.  It fits, but it needs a diaper cover under it.

This week has been a busy week of adding to my tutu inventory.  I'm expecting a new shipment of tulle, ribbon, elastic, and buttons.  I also bought a better hot fix tool to apply bling, and I bought 4 new sizes of dress forms to hold my dresses as I work on them.

Later today when my toddler takes a nap, I will take some nice detailed pictures of my dresses to list on etsy.com...my days now revolve around a nap schedule and bedtime.  Lol, but I love being a mommy and wouldn't trade it for the world.

Here's a picture of everything I've been working on lately.

2 dresses, the Princess Sofia inspired dress and the Ivory/Brown are currently for sale.  My Peacock dress is unfinished (waiting on supplies), but one finished, that's also for sale.

Stay tuned for some upcoming projects: Minnie Mouse,  Batman, Snow White, Belle, Tiana, and some Care Bears.

Settled in

In December, right before Christmas, my husband, my 6 month old (at the time), and my 2 year old cat moved from Japan back home to the US.  That was very interesting.

After spending time with family for the holidays, we then drove from the east coast to Arizona.  That was quite a drive.  And the cat was very annoying during the drive.  The 6 month old did better than the cat.  But, we found some treats that calmed him enough that he wasn't meowing the entire trip.  That was the longest time I had spent in a car...I hope to never do that again.

My mom, and my Grandmother came with us with the intent of watching the baby while we looked for a house...then they both got sick.  Fortunately, we had already found the house we wanted, unfortunately, the hospital bills were a little on the high side.

We settled into our new house (that we are renting), then came the long wait for our things to make it over on a boat and be delivered.  Our long wait turned out not to be quite so long.

The days turned into weeks as my baby and I got back into a routine.  2 weeks into living in the house, she figured out how to climb the steps.  Scary!
It's taken me awhile, but I learned when I had time to myself.  Nap time, and bedtime!

So, I've made a few cards to sell on Etsy, I've located a few of my hand crafted jewelry items and delisted them on Etsy, and I've gotten some crochet projects out of the way that are not for sale on Etsy.

But now, I've discovered a new talent!  For my daughters 1st birthday party, I made her a tutu dress.  It has become my new passion, and I get so many compliments on them.  I made her a dress inspired by Ariel from The Little Mermaid.  My next project was inspired by Tinkerbell, for a little girl my mom sometimes babysat.  Then just for fun, I made a dress inspired by Princess Sofia.  Then I moved onto making flower girl dresses.  I made an ivory and brown dress, and for a cousins upcoming wedding, a wine and black dress.  And my current project is a peacock colored dress.

My hope is to be able to sell these.  Each dress is custom for each little girl.  Now I just need to make a lot of different styles to show off my skills, get some professional photos taken, and build a website.  In the coming weeks, there will be pictures taken by me with my phone posted to this blog.
